The great thing about Imgur’s GIF creation tool is how quick and easy it is. It will only allow you to convert a video online so you cannot upload your video files directly. You will have to first upload it to a service like Youtube or Vimio.

This below list is free software that you download to your computer and install. Many of these also allow you to convert existing images and videos to GIF’s in high quality. The main benefits to use software to create a GIF is that you can use it offline without internet and you can also record a section of your screen to a GIF.
